 The Farm

Tom Bowles

Hartley Farm has been farmed by Richard Bowles since the 1970's as a cereal and livestock farm. However, due to the changing economic climate and environmental demands the farm is now facing new challenges. In 2007 Tom (pictured above), who is in the fifth generation of family farmers,  joined the business to help take on the farm and also open the farm shop and cafe.

Now we farm a one hundred and fifty acre traditional mixed farm in Winsley that is primarily supplying our farm shop. We run a herd of grass fed cattle, outdoor pigs and a flock of free range egg laying hens.We rear traditional breeds such as Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cattle, Gloucester Old Spot and Large White pigs using traditional farming methods that have been passed on through the five generations of farming. Our stockmen take great care in animal welfare and we can maintain complete traceabilty of all our animals from the farm to our shop.

In 2010 we welcomed Kate Collyns, our market gardener, to the farm. Kate produces fruit, vegetables and plants throughout the seasons here at the farm supplying our farm shop through the year as well as the wholesale trade. Her business, Grown Green, is based here at Hartley Farm and adds to our portfolio of top quality, home produced food all produced here on the farm.
