Hartley Farm is a family owned farm shop and kitchen with a mission to produce and serve the very best food and drink. We are passionate about the provenance of our ingredients – what we can’t grow, rear or make ourselves is sourced from as close to home as possible.

Wanting to share the love of great food in another community further afield than our farm in Winsley, we opened Neston Farm Shop and Kitchen on the Neston Park Estate. Different location, same values.

We know that growing our business doesn’t mean changing our ethos and the people who work with us are a big part of that. We are looking for team members who share our values and want to help us grow our story and spread the word to our customers.

Training and Development

We want the best people to work for us and understand that to achieve a fabulous team we need to provide you with ongoing support and training. We believe that working in retail and hospitality is a great career choice and we can support your progression in these areas.

 

Induction and Training

To start off with we will go through an induction programme with you so that you know what we are all about, including a tour of the farm where it all started. Once you have got to grips with all the required information, such as health and safety, your manager or supervisor will get you going with our on-the-job training programme specifically for your role. Your progress will be tracked and we will keep talking to you and setting you new and exciting challenges.

 

NVQ

We work with Babcock International to provide some of our employees with apprenticeships so you can earn whilst you are training. Once enrolled we will provide you with a mentor and your assessor from the college will visit and check your progress on a 6-8 weekly basis.

Opportunities to work with us

We are seeking an enthusiastic chef who has previous experience of working with high quality, locally sourced produce in a busy environment. The ideal candidate will be able to maintain high standards consistently in a fast paced kitchen. 

As a second chef the successful candidate will be supporting the Head Chef in all aspects of the role and will lead the kitchen team in their absence. We are looking for candidates who have excellent communication skills and are able to manage a kitchen efficiently.

Shifts are usually 9 hours per day finishing at around 5pm which provides a great work-life balance as a chef. You will only be required to work evenings for occasional events and private parties.

Neston Farm Shop & Kitchen is a family run business located in beautiful rural surroundings. We are a busy destination situated on the Neston Park Estate just outside the village of Atworth near Melksham. The Estate, its nearby farms and growers, and our own sister site at Hartley, Winsley provide much of the produce we use.

You will:

  • Share our love of creating great food from fresh ingredients with provenance
  • Have significant experience of working in a busy kitchen environment
  • Be able to execute menu dishes to the highest standards of presentation and quality consistently
  • Manage stock levels and wastage to ensure our GP is spot on
  • Maintain the kitchen to a 5* food safety standard

Salary: £21,500.00 to £23,500.00 per annum

We are looking for an experienced butcher to join our brilliant team in our award-winning farm shop. Our farm shop is based on our beautiful 140-acre family-run farm just outside of Bath where we have a herd of our own native breed cattle. 

Our farm shop has been open for over 10 years and has picked up many awards along the way such as Taste of the West’s Best Farm Shop and Farmers Weekly’s Food Farmer of the Year. Our farm has been operating for over 5 generations and now produces grass-fed, native-breed beef for our farm shop. A vacancy has now come up to join our small butchery team to help with cutting whole carcasses, sausage making and serving on the counter among other tasks, in our busy farm shop. Our butchers buy direct from our own farm and other local farms to ensure our quality and traceability is the very best which is extremely important to our company ethos and our customer’s demands. 

The right candidate must have experience working in a busy retail environment and be competent in breaking down whole carcases of beef, pork and lamb along with producing sausages, burgers and other added value items throughout the seasons. The role is full time, 45 hours per week, including Saturdays with a typical shift from 08:30 am to 5:30 pm. The position reports to our Head Butcher and works alongside one other full time and two part-time butchers who have all been working for the company for a number of years.

Our thriving cafe is seeking a positive and customer-focused Café Assistant for one day each weekend. 

Working under the guidance of our Café Manager and Assistant Café Manager, your role will include serving food, the preparation and service of hot drinks, taking customer orders and ensuring the café area looks clean and tidy at all times. 

The successful candidate will be able to go above and beyond for our customers and maintain a friendly, welcoming manner at all times to both staff and customers alike. Experience in this role is preferred but full training will be provided for the right candidate.

You will:

  • Be able to offer excellent customer service consistently
  • Be a team player and possess good communication skills
  • Be available to work one weekend day per week

We are seeking a positive and customer-focused Shop Assistant to work in both our gift shop and main farm shop for 2.5 days each week including a Saturday. 

We are a family run farm shop and cafe in Winsley, near Bradford upon Avon, and are well known for our locally sourced produce and great customer service. Working under the guidance of our Shop Manager and supervisors, your role will include greeting and helping customers with their enquiries, working on the till, serving customers at the deli counter and in our gift shop, restocking shelves and displays, and ensuring the shop area looks clean, tidy and well-merchandised at all times.

The successful candidate will be able to go above and beyond for our customers on a daily basis and maintain a friendly, welcoming manner at all times to both staff and customers alike. If you have worked in a similar environment before then great, but if not, we will provide full training.
